82 Avenue Tree Removal

Posted by & filed under Edmonton Community Services Registered.

From the City of Edmonton:

In its constant efforts to maintain Edmonton’s healthy, beautiful and robust urban forest, the City will be rejuvenating the centre median of Whyte (82) Avenue from 96 St. to 99 St. The double row of elms at this location are in declining health and will be replaced with a single row of healthy American elms. The new plan will improve growing conditions and ensure the sustainability of the trees.

Shrubs will be planted in between each elm. We have narrowed these shrubs down to five choices and would like to hear which shrub you would like to see in this space. To view these choices, please join us on Nov 18th or Nov 25th at the following information sessions to complete a survey and to see the plans.

Strathcona Community League
10139 – 87 Avenue
Monday November 18th
3:00 – 8:00pm

Ritchie Community League
7727 – 98 Street
Monday November 25th
3:00 – 8:00pm

Removing these trees is a loss to all of us and we understand they have been an important part of the landscape of this area, but like all living things, trees have a life span. Forestry staff will continue to provide high quality and consistent care to the City’s urban forest- trees are constantly monitored and assessed for tree health and vigor. The urban forest is our city’s greatest asset and we are committed to its preservation and expansion.
