Art from the Unknown
Call to Artists!
It’s that time of year again! MLA Rachel Notley is seeking artists for Art from the Unknown, 2014.
This free event provides a no-cost gallery space to new and emerging artists in our community. A new and emerging artist is defined as any artist, regardless of skill level, whose primary income does not come from selling their work. Low-income artists are especially encouraged to apply.
Art from the Unknown caters to both visual and performing artists. The show provides either hanging space or sculpture plinths for visual artists and free stage time for musical artists. Visual artists are encouraged to sell their work directly to patrons. Musical artists are welcome to solicit financial contributions from guests during performances.
This is the sixth year in a row that MLA Rachel Notley has hosted Art from the Unknown. This event saw its original success under former Edmonton-Strathcona MLA Raj Pannu. Over the last five years the show has seen increasing attendance. In 2013, this weekend-long show saw an attendance of around 1200 people and included 80 artists. While we hope to increase attendance this year, the number of artists will remain the same. Applications will therefore be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. We thank all that apply; only those who qualify to display their work/perform at the venue will be contacted.
Art from the Unknown will be hosted at the Old Strathcona Centre for the Performing Arts / Cosmopolitan Music Society, located at 8426 Gateway Boulevard. The event will run during the following times:
November 7, 2014 – 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM – Opening Night Reception with Live Music
November 8, 2014 – 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM – General Gallery
November 9, 2014 – 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM – General Gallery
