Barrhead Animal Rescue Society was founded in Barrhead, Alberta back in 2010 with the rescue of one stray cat in the town. Since then, BARS has grown to serve many Northern Alberta areas (including the greater Edmonton area and Parkland County) and occasionally the Northwest Territories. They are 100% volunteer operated and all animals in care live in foster homes while they prepare for their adoption day. BARS has rescued and rehomed thousands of companion animals as well as provided food, shelter, and veterinary care to several feral cat colonies in Parkland County and Southeast Edmonton.

The BARS 2nd Annual Spring Market celebrates local artisans and businesses with vendors selling items for humans and their furry friends (everything from handmade clothing and jewelry to pet toys and custom outdoor enclosures), a Rescue Room and Tea Bar where marketgoers can learn about animal rescue and how to get involved, and of course, a bake sale! Admission is free although a donation of kitten or puppy food would be greatly appreciated as the group prepares for the new litters that come with spring weather.
