Volunteer In Your Community

Our first fall Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be this October. Heading into next month, we are looking for active, community-minded folks interested in spending volunteer time with their local community league.

At the October AGM, the board of the Strathcona Centre Community League has a number of positions open for new directors, including:

President – 2-year term (organize and run board meetings, a main neighbourhood contact, and community voice of the board)

Treasurer – 1-year appointment (review and organize monthly budget, including bank reconciliations, advise board on financial position)

Programs Director – 2-year term (mainly responsible for children and family-focused events and City of Edmonton programming located at our hall)

Social Director – 1-year appointment (mainly responsible for adult and family-oriented events like Pub Nights and our annual Arts BBQ)

Communications Director – 1-year appointment (overseeing our newsletter, website, social media, and general communications strategy)

Garden Director – 1-year appointment (responsible for overseeing our new community garden, including its expansion and gardeners)

We have five other board positions up for election this year with current board members interested in a new term:

Secretary (responsible for board minutes and documentation), Colleen Taralson

Civics and Planning (responsible for commenting on neighbourhood development and planning, usually the league’s voice on new and redeveloped property and plans), Grant Moore

Membership (selling and tracking memberships), shared by Lois Hameister and Jeanie McDonnell

Soccer (organizing indoor and out soccer programs), shared by Conrad Nobert and Simon Thomas

Safety (responsible for leading discussions on neighbourhood safety issues), Linh Lu
