Edmonton Communities Cookbook

We want recipes from you, your parents, grandparents and great grandparents that reflect your community either now or in the past.  Tim Marriott, local historical presenter and Clare Mullen, writer and filmmaker are writing a cookbook based on Edmonton communities. Community leagues have always been a place where people and cultures come together and celebrate with food.  We presume that as Edmonton became more diverse a greater diversity of menu items has shown up in these celebrations.

We are specifically looking for recipes that you feel represent your family or your neighborhood. If you do not have any recipes, we are hoping you will share memories or photographs of times when your family or neighbors gathered together.

Family Pub Night – January 17

This month pub night will start early – so if you want to combine it with the Friday Fun Skate you can.

  • Friday, Jan 17th
  • Starting at 5pm
  • Hot dogs in the lounge
  • Come and skate (weather permitting) – or just stop by for a beer/pop/hotdog
  • 10139 – 87 Avenue
  • This is a family-friendly event – but you don’t need to come as a family!  All ages welcome.  (come around 8 if you want to miss the fun and noise of the kids).


(Family Fun Skate is every Friday – 3:30 to 9:00 – hot chocolate provided from 3:30 till 6:00).

Ice on Whyte returns to Strathcona Centre

The 11th annual Ice on Whyte festival is back at End of Steel and Strathcona Parks this winter, January 24 – February 2.

The Strathcona Centre Community League is pleased to partner with Ice on Whyte, allowing the festival to program and utilize most of our community hall during the festival. The skate change area on the main floor of the hall, and our hockey rink, remain open to community league members throughout the duration. (more…)

Outdoor Soccer Registration for 2014 Season

Registration for the 2014 outdoor soccer season will held at the Strathcona Community League at the following times:

-Wednesday February 12th – 6:30 to 8:30 pm

-Wednesday February 19th – 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Details will be posted closer to these dates.

For those who are unable to attend at these times, a zone-wide registration will be held. Date and time TBA.

INFANT MASSAGE CLASSES are wonderful for parents/caregivers with infants birth- 12 months. Parents/caregivers will learn the theory & practice of infant massage teaching relaxation for both parent & baby, routines to help baby sleep better, routines for relief of gas & symptoms of colic & have opportunities to talk about parenting issues/challenges!
