Community Hall Redevelopment

Posted by & filed under SCL.

The Strathcona Centre Community League is looking at future use and enjoyment of our community hall and grounds. We are privileged to have such a large hall and want to make the most of our amenities for community members, renters, and anyone using the facilities.

Building and Grounds director Jonathan Rockliff is spearheading the redevelopment. Earlier this year you might have seen a survey from Jonathan asking about your use of the hall. Using that information, we now have 3 visions of our potential hall of the future provided by a trio of Edmonton architectural firms.  (more…)

Call For Artists

Posted by & filed under Community.

It’s that time of year again! MLA Rachel Notley is seeking artists for “Art from the Unknown” 2013.

This free event provides a no-cost gallery space to new and emerging artists in our community. A new and emerging artist is defined as any artist, regardless of skill level, whose primary income does not come from selling their work. Low-income artists are especially encouraged to apply.

Art from the Unknown caters to both visual and performing artists. The show provides either hanging space or sculpture plinths for visual artists and free stage time for musical artists. Visual artists are encouraged to sell their work directly to patrons. Musical artists are welcome to solicit financial contributions from guests during performances.  (more…)

Strathcona Centre’s annual fall Arts BBQ

Posted by & filed under Community.

Once again Strathcona Community League is hosting an annual potluck BBQ outside the hall (we’ll move inside if it’s raining).  The Community League provides burgers/dogs/veggie dogs and drinks, and you can provide a pot luck dish to share (bring your own cutlery and plate too).  It’s a great way to chat with old friends and meet some new ones. A Jumpy Castle will be available again this year. Local authors, poets, artists, craftspeople and entertainers will be featured.
