The City of Edmonton invites residents to join and share their thoughts on the following application.

The application

An application has been made to rezone 8904 & 8920 – 99 Street Nw and 9922, 9924 & 9926 – 89 Avenue NW. If approved, the zoning for these lots would change from the (CNC) Neighbourhood Convenience Commercial Zone and (RA7) Low Rise Apartment Zone to a (DC2) Site Specific Development Control Provision. The proposal included:

  • 95.0 metres in height (approximately 31 storeys);
  • 240 dwellings;
  • 6.5 Floor Area Ratio;
  • Commercial uses at the ground level on the east portion facing 99 Street NW and 89 Avenue NW;
  • Townhouse style dwellings on the west portion facing 89 Avenue NW; and
  • Underground parking

An application has also been made to close a portion of the lane west of 99 Street NW to accommodate the proposed development. Traffic flow from the east-west lane to 90 Avenue NW will still be maintained. Vehicles will still be able to access the site from 89 Avenue NW, but this would be on a private lane and no longer on a City owned lane.

In addition, an application has been made to amend the Strathcona Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) to change current policy that does not support development of this height at this location.

Renewal Open House Well Attended By Community

Posted by & filed under Renewal.

Strathcona residents talk “renewal” at the recent open house

On March 8 our committee hosted an open house to showcase the student team’s vision for Strathcona’s Neighbourhood Renewal. About 75 people turned out to see what the students had come up with and to discuss the wonderful potential that neighbourhood renewal has for Strathcona.

University students Kaylyn, Aaron, Nelson and Stephanie were gathering input for their project and presenting a preliminary concept plan for a more walkable and bikable Strathcona.

Next Steps:

  • The students will be submitting their final report, along with three different concept plans, in mid-April
  • The Neighbourhood Renewal Committee will present a plan for a further, deep engagement of the community to the league board in mid May.

Final Skate on Sunday 1-3pm

Posted by & filed under Community Events or Classes, Programs.

The skating season is coming to an end – come out on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 for a skate, hot chocolate, coffee and cookies!  Sticks and pucks will be allowed if there aren’t many non-hockey skaters.  Warning – the ice is bumpy and some clearing with a shovel may be required.

Next week you are welcome to skate at your own risk until the ice gets too soft – check our online calendar for rink conditions.
