The B2 BRT route will create a key east-west connection between West Edmonton Mall and Bonnie Doon via the University of Alberta.

This route is made up of the following segments:

• West Edmonton Mall to South Campus by way of 87 Avenue, 149 Street, Whitemud Drive, Fox Drive and Belgravia Road. The route crosses the North Saskatchewan River using the Quesnell Bridge.
• South Campus to the University of Alberta
• University and Garneau areas to 83 Street (Bonnie Doon) by way of 82 Avenue. While the most eastern stop on the route will be at 83 Street (Bonnie Doon Mall), the project team is exploring the feasibility of a bus turnaround in the vicinity of 71 Street.

Engagement is underway to seek feedback on two key areas of Route B2:

• 82 Avenue: The dedicated lanes (curbside or centre-running) for BRT on 82 Avenue between 109 Street and 83 Street
• University Area: The streets and avenues that BRT will use between 109 Street and the University Transit Centre

When most people think of solar energy, they think of solar panels. But sunlight can also be used to generate high-temperature heat. This heat can reach temperatures useful for industries such as critical minerals processing, metal production, and glass manufacturing, which still rely heavily on fossil fuels today. This talk introduces concentrated solar thermal (CST), a technology that uses reflectors (like mirrors) to focus sunlight onto molten salts, allowing solar radiation to be stored and used as clean industrial heat.

FEATURED SPEAKER: MOJOLAOLUWA (MOJO) KESHIRO
Mojo is a PhD student at the University of Alberta with the department of Mechanical Engineering. With career expertise in heat transfer, research and project management, he’s pursuing research in advanced radiation heat transfer at the Renewable Thermal Lab under Dr. Muhammad Taha Manzoor.

The Strathcona Football Society is hosting a Garden Compost Sale fundraiser Saturday, May 23rd.

Funds raised through the compost sale help offset player fees and purchase equipment for football players at Strathcona High School. Supporting this fundraiser helps make school sports more accessible for local students.

Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of free citizen-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs.  

On the first weekend of May every year, Jane’s Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities across the globe. Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.  

Created in 2007 in Toronto by friends of the urban thinker Jane Jacobs, the annual series of free, volunteer-led urban walks has grown from 27 to over 500 walks, from Calgary to Canberra and Sao Paulo to Saskatoon.

Description: Join a walking meditation and a sauna ritual in the ravine. Participants will experience sweat sessions with an Estonian sauna knowledge keeper in a mobile tent sauna. Groups are limited to 8 registered participants at a time.
Dress to walk trails. Wear a swimsuit or light cotton clothing underneath. Please bring a towel, slide-on shoes, robe, and water. Do not wear jewelry or watches. Changing tent onsite. Please be advised that there are no public washrooms nearby.

Description: “Old Strathcona Eastside- Evolving” will trace the impact that community organizing has had on the neighbourhood, as well as on the development of the city as a whole, linking local activism to Jane Jacobs’ famous actions to stop freeway proposals in New York and Toronto. Along the way, we will also take note of some features of historical interest, and visit a new cohousing development. We will wind up at a commercial node, where new businesses have come to occupy old buildings.
Accessibility: Start & finish are accessible by Bus, and Bike with a walk to the start. On street parking is available.

Description: A walk down Whyte, from 106 St to 101 St, to reflect on redevelopment opportunities in the public realm. Trees, benches, patios, and more! We’ll discuss how to build a Whyte Ave that prioritizes people and transit! This ride will include a short ETS bus ride from 101 St to 96 St, so please bring your ARC Card or money for transit fare. At the east end of the Ave, we will continue the walk and discuss Whyte Ave in the context of the French Quarter.
Accessibility: Start & finish is accessible by Bus or Bike. Paid on-street parking is available. Route is all via City Sidewalks, plus a short bus ride.

In partnership with the Edmonton Heritage Council’s Commonwealth Walkway app, you’ll learn about the historic relational role that the North Saskatchewan River has played for those who call amiskwacîwâskahikan home.

Donations are accepted between 8 AM and 5 PM while consignments are accepted between 8 AM and 2 PM.  

Those with stolen bike police reports are invited at 2 PM for Peace of Mind to see for themselves that there are no stolen bikes.
Sales go from 2:30 PM to 5 PM.

Donated bikes go to Hearts Centre and Bike Edmonton, while adaptive bikes support You Can Ride 2. As a self-funded event, any profit goes directly toward supporting legitimate CAN-BIKE cycling education.
