This speaker series focuses on multidisciplinary research that develops the energy technologies of today and the near future, integrates them into today’s infrastructure, and examines possible consequences for our society, economy, and environment. Energy Talks provides an opportunity for you to engage with researchers and learn more about their work.

From Sunlight to Industrial Heat: How Concentrated Solar Thermal Could Decarbonize Industry

Date: Wednesday, May 20
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Strathcona Branch – Edmonton Public Library, Program Room
8331 104 ST NW
Online registration required.
Visit https://epl.bibliocommons.com/events/688bf821709d274100349b04

When most people think of solar energy, they think of solar panels. But sunlight can also be used to generate high-temperature heat. This heat can reach temperatures useful for industries such as critical minerals processing, metal production, and glass manufacturing, which still rely heavily on fossil fuels today. This talk introduces concentrated solar thermal (CST), a technology that uses reflectors (like mirrors) to focus sunlight onto molten salts, allowing solar radiation to be stored and used as clean industrial heat.

FEATURED SPEAKER: MOJOLAOLUWA (MOJO) KESHIRO
Mojo is a PhD student at the University of Alberta with the department of Mechanical Engineering. With career expertise in heat transfer, research and project management, he’s pursuing research in advanced radiation heat transfer at the Renewable Thermal Lab under Dr. Muhammad Taha Manzoor.
