A coordinator will be there to help set up and take down the nets, and organize the rotation.

Nets, balls and some paddles will be provided. If you have a paddle or can borrow one that will be helpful.

On Sunday, Aug 24th the league will host PICKLEBALL & PASTRIES to kick off our pickleball program. In addition to the Open Play, everyone is welcome to come out and watch, give it a try if you want, have a coffee and donut and say hello to some neighbours.

Depending on demand, we may continue some of these sessions (or add additional ones) in September. Contact hall@strathconacommunity.ca if you have any questions, requests or comments.

Members who want to play any other time – go ahead if you have your own net. If you want to use the League’s net (and balls and paddles), you can do so when someone is at the hall to give you access: Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri from 1pm – 4pm, and Thurs from 10am – 1pm. To borrow equipment, email the hall manager at rentals@strathconacommunity.ca ahead of time, or ring the doorbell at the south door.

Tennis players – don’t despair, we have a new tennis court – but the nets aren’t installed yet. We’ll let you know when tennis is available.

The Hall and Grounds Renewal Committee is very pleased to announce that we have secured the full funding for our community project!

In February, we received word that we have been awarded the provincial Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) grant for $848,000. This, coupled with the municipal Community League Infrastructure Program (CLIP) grant for $425,000 and the League’s reserves of $385,000 as well as contributions from Strathcona Nursery School, the League has secured a budget of almost $1.7 million dollars for our Renewal Project.

We are grateful to the Province of Alberta (and Minister Turton for presenting us with the big cheque!), the City of Edmonton and all the volunteers who have worked to support this project.

Next steps:
With funding in place, the committee is working hard to finalize the concept drawings for the interior ground floor renovation. We will then move forward with engineered drawings, City permits and approvals and selecting contractors. At this time, we are tentatively expecting construction to commence in late 2025.

If you have any questions about this project or would like to be considered as a contractor, please email info@strathconacommunity.ca.

November 2024 HGRC Update

We are excited to announce that the rink move portion of the Hall and Grounds Renewal Project is complete!

In March 2022, the first meeting was held about Hall and Grounds Renewal at Strathcona Community League. The committee and the board have worked through many designs, budgets and approvals to get to this point and we would like to thank the committee, the board, our CoE representatives, our architects and contractors, the community volunteers and the hall employees for their tireless work.

This fall, we resurfaced the old tennis courts and relocated our wooden rink. We now have a 4-season space for skating in the winter and tennis/pickleball in the summer. We also have the open space on the South Lawn where further development will be proposed.

The next phase of Renewal is the renovation of the Hall building’s ground floor. The committee continues to work through the design, budget and approval processes for the next portion of the project.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported this community-led project.
Stay tuned for updates as we move into the next phases.

September 2024 HGRC Update

It has been a busy summer for the Hall and Grounds Renewal Committee and it will be an even busier fall.

In July, we were invited to submit an application for the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) provincial grant. We submitted our application at the end of August and await an answer from them in January 2025.

In the meantime, work has commenced on the outdoor grounds portion of the project. If you have been by the Hall lately, you have seen some major changes, with the rink being dismantled and the support posts being removed. Starting on or around September 6, work will commence on the resurfacing of the asphalt on the tennis courts. At this time, the work is expected to be fully completed by September 18, after which the League will work to reassemble the rink in the new location in time for the 2024/25 rink season.

This project is volunteer-run, and soon the committee will again be asking for your help with a Call for Volunteers post to reassemble the rink. If you have any questions about this project, please contact us at info@strathconacommunity.ca
