As you have probably noted, it has been almost a year since this online engagement was done. On November 13, 2020, the Provincial Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women issued notice to the property owner of the requirement to conduct a Historic Resource Impact Assessment (HRIA) prior to any changes being made to the property (including demolition). The HRIA has since been produced and provided to the Minister for review.  Conversations are ongoing between the property owner and representatives from the province with regards to the future of the existing building and/or any redevelopment potential on the site.  

Until those conversations conclude with a clear path forward, the rezoning application with the City of Edmonton has been placed on hold.

The Strathcona Centre Community League is holding its annual general meeting (AGM) on Monday, November 8, 2021 at 7.30pm 

The AGM is open to all neighbours and residents of Strathcona who are interested to hear about the league’s projects and events of the last year, and all league members are allowed to vote on motions presented.

The board will also be tabling the SCCL financial statements of the league.

Our local instructor will take you on an artistic experience, guiding you through the various techniques and tips of acrylic painting! You’ll have the opportunity to progress your skills, class by class, and complete the program with a final painting project done on canvas.

Krystal’s love for art started at a young age. Her art teacher was a great influence and inspired her to be an art teacher after being under her guidance. For the past 10 years, she’s been teaching and selling her work locally. She loves teaching, the satisfaction it brings, and the ability to display her paintings to new students all over the city. Dream big and enjoy art!

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 

• Both volunteers and shoppers will be required to show proof of double vaccination and photo ID , wear masks, observe distancing while in the church. 
• Capacity will be monitored. Shoppers may be asked to wait before entering the church.
• Items will be displayed in two rooms–the Lower Hall and the Green Room–where tables will be spaced and ventilation enhanced by open windows.

Upcoming EPCOR Drainage manhole construction on Saskatchewan Drive and Gateway Boulevard will start in mid-October 2021. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of February 2022. These timelines are estimates and may change based on weather and construction conditions.

This virtual trivia event is best suited for children between the ages of 5 and 12 years old, and questions have been designed with them in mind – let them take the lead in answering! There will be two rounds of 15 questions each. No more than 45 minutes to play!

Please join us at the Strathcona Community League on National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, this Thursday, September 30th as we remember the children who died at Residential Schools across Canada.

We will supply materials for kids and adults alike to make small memorial stakes to be placed in the grassy hill on the North Side of the Community League. Candles will also be provided and will be lit at sundown (7:12 PM). We will have a minute of silence as we remember. 

Consider wearing orange to honour those children that died in Residential School, survivors and their loved-ones.
