ArtSpirit Festival – November 17-20

The Arts to Soar at Holy Trinity’s ArtSpirit Festival

With the days growing shorter, now’s a good time to revive one’s spirit at Holy Trinity’s ArtSpirit Festival, from November 17 through November 20. The four-day festival of music, literature, film, dance and theatre provides the perfect venue for spirituality and creativity to interconnect.

“This month’s ArtSpirit Festival brings a variety of outstanding Edmonton artists together to showcase their original works,” says Artistic Director Margaret Macpherson. “There will be something for everyone to appreciate and enjoy.”

  • A visual arts reception will launch the festival on Thursday, November 17 from 6:30 to 9pm with a poetic interpretation of Dan Bagan’s landscapes and a book launch for Katherine Koller’s Art Lessons. The next day tango dancing will be on display at the Seniors’ Treacle Tea from 2 to 4pm.
  • David Belke, Holy Trinity’s playwright, ponders the presence of God in real lives with his new play “Who Goes There?”. The commissioned script is based on interviews with returned war veterans, street youth, elementary-school children and seniors, revealing their own understanding of God at pivotal moments. This play is being prepared for the Fringe 2017 and audience feedback will be most welcome. There will be two performances: Friday, November 18 from 7:30 to 9pm and Saturday, November 19 from 2:30 pm to 4pm.
  • A mini film festival, called “Shorts: Packing Powerful Punches,” will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 7 to 10pm. Filmmakers Lindsay McIntyre, Kelton Stepanowich, Dylan Howard, Katrina Beatty and Eva Colmers will all be available to talk after the screening of their films.
  • Also on Saturday, November 19 at 7pm, Dr. Rob Curtis will conduct the i Coristi Chamber Choir, in a program called “Landscapes” connecting a variety of places from Venice to Estonia and back to Edmonton.
  • The final day of the Festival, Sunday, November 20, will feature a scripted reading of “Crazy Train” by David Haas at 2pm, and at 7:30pm a Script Salon Mélange will present a series of nine short plays read by seasoned actors.

This Festival, made possible by the Edmonton Arts Council, The Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta, and the City of Edmonton, will bring people and the arts together in this historic church. The Holy Trinity Anglican Church is located at 10037 84th Avenue in Old Strathcona. For more information about the Festival please contact Janette Chambers at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 780-433-5530 or email her at church.office@holytrinity.ab.ca.
