Free Swimming for Summer

Everyone with a community league membership can swim for free at Edmonton’s outdoor pools this summer.

Membership allows you to swim for free at the following pools during specified times:

  • Mill Creek (Sunday through Saturday, 7-9 PM, from May 23 to Sept 18)
  • Queen Elizabeth (Sunday through Wednesday, 5-7 PM, from May 23 to Sept 18)
  • Oliver (Sunday through Wednesday, 5-7 PM, from June 1 to Sept 2)
  • Fred Broadstock (Sunday through Wednesday, 5-7 PM, from May 23 to Sept 18).

Keep our schools viable

We all know our schools are important to our community.

  • It is there that we meet our neighbours who have become our good friends.
  • The school playground is where our kids mix and mingle and learn to get along with each other.
  • It’s often where the playschool and the daycare – those VIPs who are helping us raise our children – are located.
  • It can be where our kids practice for community league indoor soccer and basketball programs

We need our schools to stay viable. In older communities such as ours in south central Edmonton, schools are constantly under threat of closure because enrolment is low. School budgets are based on the number of children attending the school. The more kids enrolled, the more money available.

School principals are planning now, in the spring, for their fall programs. Let them know now you are going to be there in the fall. Here is what can happen. (more…)

Register May 1 for summer programs at SCL

Here are a listing of the programs offered this summer at the Strathcona Community League. If you don’t see a program that suits your needs, be sure to check out those offered by neighbouring communities, such as Hazeldean, Ritchie, Fulton Place or Capilano on the City of Edmonton Community Services site.


Learn to skate programs announced

Edmonton Community Services is offering learn-to-skate programs for preschool and school-age children at the Strathcona Community League rink.  

Lessons take place outside and will be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Courses are 6 weeks minimum with two make-up sessions scheduled March 10 & and March 17 in case of inclement weather (below -20 degrees Celsius). In the event of no cancellations, the program will run with 2 additional sessions.

CSA approved skating helmets are mandatory.
