2015/2016 Indoor Soccer Registration

There are three dates available for Strathcona players to register. For Indoor, all the Southeast Zone communities register together:

  • Wednesday, September 9, 6:00pm – 8:30pm, Ritchie Community League, 7727-98 Street
  • Saturday, September 12, 10:00am – 2:00pm, Bonnie Doon Mall (near Tony Roma’s), 82nd Ave & 83rd Street
  • Monday, September 21, 6:00pm – 9:00pm, South Soccer Centre, 6520 Roper Road

There are a number of requirements and new this year you can do some of the registration on-line (you still need to come to one of the dates).  The home-page for the South East Soccer Association outlines all of the requirements, at:http://www.southeastsoccer.ca

Community League memberships will be available (they expire in August so most people will need new ones).

Bring several cheques for payment and deposits – you will need up to 3 for one child (plus cash or extra cheques for the Community League membership if you don’t have one, plus money for a pass for each adult to enter the Soccer Centres). For each additional child, you will need one additional cheque (uniform deposit).

STORM Tryouts

Tryouts for the Elite Premier Program U12-U18 Boys & Girls. They take place on Tuesday, September 1 AND Wednesday, September 2. Players must attend both dates. Details are on the website: http://www.southeastsoccer.ca

About the Indoor Game

If you have not played Indoor Soccer before, it is different from the Outdoor game.  Teams play in what is essentially a hockey rink will a felt surface.  The boards are legal for use, adding a new dimension to passing and keeping the game fast and more free-flowing.  You play 5 players out plus a goalie, and line changes are every few minutes for the younger ages or on the fly for older ones (just as they are done in hockey). For U6/U8 you only use half the rink, for U10 and above you use the entire rink. Last year they changed it so U8 only have 4 players out plus a goalie, while U10 players have 6 players out plus a goalie.

There is only one game per week, but the season is longer, running from the third week of October until end of January for Indoor Games. Practices can continue into February while older teams that quality for City, Inter Cities or Provincials can have their season extended until March.

  • U6/U8 games are played in the mornings/early afternoon on Saturday at the South Soccer Centre (Roper Road)
  • U10/U12 community teams play any time on Saturday at any of Edmonton soccer centers and Spruce Grove with the possibility of some travel to Sherwood Park, St Albert and/or Fort Saskatchewan
  • U14 and up community teams play on Sundays at all the same potential locations as U10/U12
  • Competitive teams can have their weekly games on weekdays (early evening)

Practices are typically weekday evenings at a gym in the SE zone, with a one-hour time slot.  We typically don’t know when/where our practice times are until the City confirms bookings for gyms, but they are usually fixed for the entire indoor season. Unlike last year, we were able to get more gym space, so they should be weekly and the older ages have some larger gyms for practices.

For older ages groups there are also optional tournaments hosted by various zones in the city that teams can enter through the year.

Because registration demands for Indoor is typically lower than outdoor, significant amalgamation occurs across communities. Most communities do not have enough players to form teams with only their players. Typically teams are assigned to communities based on having the most players and/or the coaches.
