Board Positions Available
Strathcona Community League is looking for new board members. Please contact Maureen Duguay – for more information about the positions. Below you find all available position, but we would like to highlight the two positions for which the current chair is not letting their name stand for re-election.
- Social | 2-year term | Pub nights, barbecues, family fun nights, skating parties, the social committee can do it all, making Strathcona a fun and active neighbourhood.
- Green | 2-year term | The Strathcona Centre Community League is dedicated to promoting environmentally-friendly planning and creating a green and liveable neighbourhood. The Green Committee acts on these ideas through consultation and events
If you are interested in one of the roles below, please contact Maureen Duguay and attend the AGM on Monday, November 4th, 2019 at 8pm.
- Vice President | 2-year term | The vice president can step in and fill any of the President’s roles and duties, including chairing the monthly board meeting. Previous board experience would be an asset, but not necessary. Volunteer hours required: 12-16 hours/month (or more, depending on any chosen committee work There is a current chair letting their name stand for re-election.
- Treasurer | 2-year term | The treasurer is responsible for managing and administering all finances of the SCCL. The treasurer must ensure that monthly profit and loss statements are an accurate reflection of the board’s financial position and that the board’s finances are up-to-date and compiled in accordance with rules and requirements of a non-profit organization. The treasurer acts as a signing officer to oversee the finances of the SCCL, and works closely with the League accountant and hall manager. Previous bookkeeping and or accounting experience would be an asset. There is a current chair letting their name stand for re-election.
- Green | 2-year term | The Strathcona Centre Community League is dedicated to promoting environmentally-friendly planning and creating a green and liveable neighbourhood. The Green Committee acts on these ideas through consultation and events.
- Building and Grounds | 2-year term | The Building and Grounds committee helps to manage the facilities, including infrastructure renewal There is a current chair letting their name stand for re-election.
- Social | 2-year term | Pub nights, barbecues, family fun nights, skating parties, the social committee can do it all, making Strathcona a fun and active neighbourhood.
- Community Garden | 2-year term | The Garden Director coordinates SCCL’s community garden alongside the streetcar tracks, north of 85 Avenue. The director creates and organizes other community gardening projects and plots as may become active in the neighbourhood. Promote environmental efforts and local food policies in the neighbourhood and on behalf of the SCCL. There is a current chair letting their name stand for re-election.
- Communications | 2-year term | Information about and from the community league can be found in many places, including a published newsletter delivered to homes in the neigbourhood by volunteers, this website, our Facebook group, and Twitter account. The publicity/newsletter committee stays on top of it all and coordinates communications to membership and the wider community There is a current chair letting their name stand for re-election.
- Hall Use | 2-year term | If you have a question about what rooms our community hall has available to rent, or how we can better utilize the building, the Hall Use committee will have the answers. More information about rentals can also be found on our Hall Rentals page. There is a current chair letting their name stand for re-election.
- Neighbourhood and Community Engagement | 2-year term | This committee is tasked with coordinating better outcomes for neighbours in relation to large community events, such as festivals. There is a current chair letting their name stand for re-election.
