This is an invitation for you to attend Night Out on the North Saskatchewan, a celebration of the wonder and history of the longest contiguous urban green space in North America – Edmonton’s beautiful River Valley.
The event will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 6 to 10 pm at the Beverly Heights Community Hall, 4209-111 Avenue NW in Edmonton.
This celebration and fundraising event is hosted by the Soroptimist International Club of Edmonton, Edmonton River Valley Conservation Coalition and North Saskatchewan River Valley Conservation Society.
We expect 300 people to attend and the event will feature the following highlights.
6.00 pm – Your evening will begin with a mixer featuring various displays from organizations involved with Edmonton’s North Saskatchewan River Valley. While viewing this information you will be able to enjoy local craft beer from Bentstick Brewery, sip a variety of wines or enjoy snacks such as Saskatoon berry pie with ice cream.
7.00 pm – The pace picks up with our “Skipping Stones” speakers, each of whom will present for 6 minutes and 40 seconds on a topic in a visual style which includes 20 slides shown each for 20 seconds. The speakers and topics include:
Lu Carbyn – Birds in the valley
Colleen Cassady St. Clair – Coyotes in the river valley – Coyotes convene in the river valley while living among us.
Miranda Jimmy – Indigenous river valley history

Scott Persons – The Mystery of Edmonton’s Dinosaur Graveyard – Research along the North Saskatchewan River has uncovered clues to a seventy-million-year-old mystery. A “bone bed” containing the skeletons of over a hundred dinosaurs, each larger than a pickup truck, tells the story of why these ancient animals died and also how they lived.
Robert Rogers – Medicinal Plants and Fungi of the River Valley – Throughout Edmonton’s River Valley and tributaries are found hundreds of plants and mushrooms with health benefits. We will look at six of the more interesting; citing traditional and modern scientific usage.
Pamela Wight – Next potential Conservation Site along the river
8.30 pm – Finale will feature “On the River” a multi media concert by Maria Dunn, a storyteller through song, http://www.mariadunn.com
