Edmonton Pride Festival 2015 in Old Strathcona
Edmonton Pride’s festival and parade are in Old Strathcona this year, returning to where it all started 35 years ago! We’ll be welcoming tens of thousands of people to our neighbourhood to celebrate inclusion and diversity the first weekend of June.
The festival begins Saturday, June 6 and the festivities run through the month of June, with the parade and Pride in the Park happening the weekend of June 6-7. These are going to be the largest events and the ones right in our neighbourhood.
Events of notes to Strathcona residents are:
Pride Parade – happening Saturday, June 6. The parade will make its way down Whyte Avenue and lead festival goers to End of Steel Park and the soccer fields at King Edward school. There will be a kids area in the hockey rink at Strathcona Community Hall.
Pride in the Park and the Bounce Stage and Beverage Garden – Saturday, June 6. Once the parade is over everyone is invited to End of Steel Park, King Edward School’s soccer fields, and Strathcona Park (where our community hall is) to listen to music, enjoy some food and beverages, and just enjoy the weekend. Things should wind down about 9pm on Saturday.
Sunday June 7 – It’s a little bit quieter on the Sunday, but there will still be events happening around our community hall in the same parks. These include the Pride Interfaith Service and YEG Women and Trans Mini-Fest. Everything should be wrapped up by 6pm on Sunday.
More details on the festival are available at Edmonton Pride’s website. This should includes links to road closures from the City of Edmonton when they are updated. If you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to email community@edmontonpride.ca.
