Hawrelak is back!

Hawrelak is BACK.

After three long years (it felt more like 10), Edmonton’s iconic Hawrelak Park will reopen on March 13 2026!

Since opening on Canada day in 1967, the 68-hectare “living room” of our River Valley has been home to playgrounds, promenades, skating ponds, annual festivals, and roughly 50 jillion picnics.

The Park closed to the public in 2023 for the first updates to its storm, sanitary, water and power systems since it first opened.

This spring, visitors will also see a number of upgrades throughout the park, like:

  • A new lakefront promenade,
  • A modernized pavilion,
  • Enhanced Accessibility to paths and trail, and
  • A new, nature-themed playground!

Picnic site bookings and major festivals/events will officially return to the park in May, and a grand Re-Opening celebration is scheduled for May 30.
