High Level Bridge Rehabilitation Update | Oct 2026

Project Update – Fall 2026
The City of Edmonton will rehabilitate the High Level Bridge in 2027, one year earlier than planned, to coordinate the work with emergent slope stabilization repairs required following Edmonton’s extreme summer 2026 weather events.
Landslides and erosion have affected the river valley slopes adjacent to the bridge. Completing the rehabilitation at the same time will help reduce the overall duration and number of closures in the area.
The High Level Bridge remains safe to use. Rehabilitation will focus on priority repairs to maintain the bridge and extend its service life, including work on the bridge deck, surrounding slopes, bearings and drainage.
The bridge will be fully closed to traffic during construction. Pedestrian access will be maintained when possible. Detours and access changes will be communicated in advance.
Additional construction details will be shared as they are confirmed in the coming months.
The sidewalk from the southeast staircase to Saskatchewan Drive will remain closed until this work is completed and the sidewalk can safely reopen to active mode users. The west sidewalk remains open.
