Old Strathcona | Update Lighting and Survey

The neighbourhood renewal lighting team would like to gauge your interest in what kind of upgraded light the neighbourhood would prefer.

The April open house and survey connected to our neighbourhood renewal showed overwhelming preference for a “roadway” pole with Heritage arm and “fluted” pole in the colour black. Currently that is the option we would request as an upgrade over the standard, silver, galvanized steel pole (as seen on 83 Avenue). The bulb will be LED.

Heritage Arm Strathcona Lighting Option

We do have a new “Glenora” style option though

What’s known as a “post top” pole is now available if we want it as an upgrade. It is a shorter pole with a more distinct heritage design and light on top instead of at the end of an arm (it will still have an LED bulb).

Old Strathcona Post Top Lights Options

The question the lighting committee would like to ask you is, do you prefer this post top light as an upgrade option to the roadway pole selected earlier?

A couple caveats to note. There is no guarantee we receive the upgraded light. It will require the support of more than 50% of property owners, who will be surveyed at a future date.

The post top light could also require moving the location of every single light in the neighbourhood, and could also increase the number of poles by up to 20% (example: if you have four lights on your street now, there could be five). This is because the lighting area will not be as large from these lights. The LED light is still pointed downward.

If you prefer this new option as our upgrade choice, please click the link below for a two-question survey which will allow us to gauge interest.
