Low Level Bridge Construction Update

Starting the week of July 28, the City will begin rehabilitation on the southbound Low Level Bridge. The work includes repairs and strengthening to extend the bridge’s lifespan and ensure the bridge remains a safe and reliable river crossing until the eventual planned decommissioning of the southbound bridge.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025, with some carry-over work into 2026.

Traffic Impacts

  • Starting July 28, there will be no northbound traffic on Low Level Bridge. Northbound traffic will be detoured to the James MacDonald/98 Avenue Bridge for the duration of construction.
  • The southbound Low Level Bridge will be temporarily reduced to one lane while a traffic crossover is built.
  • In mid-to-late August, when the traffic crossover is complete, southbound traffic will shift to the northbound Low Level Bridge.
  • Two lanes of southbound traffic will be restored using the northbound Low Level Bridge. Northbound traffic will continue to use the James MacDonald/98 Avenue Bridge detour.
  • The southbound bridge will be fully closed during construction.

People walking, cycling and rolling can continue to cross the river using the sidewalk on the northbound Low Level Bridge. The shared pathway under the bridges will remain open.
