New Light Standards for Strathcona – Would You like to Be Involved?
As you may know, neighbourhood renewal is coming to Strathcona in 2019.
As part of rebuilding the streets and sidewalks of our neighbourhood, the city will be replacing all of the street lights. The default lights that they install are light grey (I think), meant to be functional and nothing more.
Our neighbourhood has an opportunity to get decorative street lighting. However, since this will add a small levy to everyone’s property for a few years (very rough guess of $12/year for 10 years), it requires getting the signatures of 51% of title holders in the community.
The deadlines are as follows (all in 2018):
- May 15: Strathcona lighting team is struck. You must email me by then if you want to be involved.
- July 3: Official notice to city that we want upgraded lighting and what style of light standards we want
- September 4: The City send expression of interest (EOI) notices to property owners
- November 15: We submit signatures representing 50 + 1 percent of titles in the neighbourhood opting in to upgraded lighting standards.
Would you like to be on the lighting committee?
If so, please email me, Conrad Nobert, at vicepresident@strathconacommunity.ca by May 15, 2018. We will be meeting next week!
