Spotlight on the Community Garden

The Strathcona Rail Community Garden (SRGC), in partnership with Youth Empowering (YESS), donates produce grown by members to YESS on a weekly basis from Aug thru Oct each year under the leadership of Jalene Murphy & group of wonderful volunteers!

Food insecurity is a pressing issue right now, especially for those marginalized. With weekly produce donations, YESS can ensure that their clients have access to healthy, nutritious meals on a regular basis.

SRGC also maintains a plot dedicated to growing food specifically for YESS. ‘Ken’s Plot’ — named after founding member Ken Nash who sadly passed away in 2015.

Mutual aid and care are essential to building strong communities. The SRGC is proud of this partnership with YESS and hope it continues for many years to come!
