Urban Coyotes and Strathcona

Sometimes our neighbourhood is visited by coyotes that live in the River valley and Mill Creek. What can you do to prevent the coyotes coming too close to your garden or property? Did you know that leaving bird food outside or having compost can be an attractant for coyotes because it gives them an easy catch of small animals? Read the information below and find out more.

The City Website has a Coyote Information page that provides a wealth of information on urban coyotes including conflict prevention, what to do if you encounter a coyote and when to report a coyote interaction.

There is also a printable guide titled: “Guide to Co-existing with Urban Coyotes” that is available online here

COE has a Coyote Information Line that citizens may call:  780-644-5744

Residents can also call 311 to report a problem coyote.
