Vacancy | Ice Rink Maker

The Strathcona Centre Community League is seeking an Outdoor Rink Ice Maker/Maintenance Person for the 2020-21 Outdoor rink season. This is a part-time employee position. The purpose of this position is to make and maintain the ice for the Strathcona Centre Community League’s two outdoor ice surfaces. This position is critical to providing a safe and fun experience for League Members and users of the rinks.

DATES: Tentative start Nov 23, 2020 until Mid March 2020 weather permitting

DUTIES: Working together with the assistant you will be responsible for making of ice, all snow removal from the ice surfaces, conditioning of the ice surfaces as needed and other associated duties as designated and assigned by the Hall Manager. You are able to work independently in all weather conditions. Duties will include:

  • Flooding the rink to build up then maintain the ice surfaces as required; Clearing snow as required;
  • Ensuring the proper and safe use of all rink equipment – gas-powered snow blower, gas-powered power sweeper, flooding hoses and other various pieces of equipment;
  • Following a list of maintenance duties including recording of maintenance work and flooding of ice surface;
  • Interacting with League Members and rink users/renters in a friendly and courteous manner.

QUALIFICATIONS: The position requires an individual willing to work a flexible schedule often dictated by the weather, including evenings when flooding, and weekends if snow removal is required. Previous experience making/maintaining ice and operating power equipment is an asset. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.

Prerequisite: satisfactory police information check

WAGE:  $20 – $25 per hour based on experience; plus vacation pay

HOURS:  As required, not to exceed 28 hours per week.
