You’re invited: How to improve the public realm of Edmonton’s core neighbourhoods? A RECOVER conversation

Are you thinking about joining us for this Friday’s RECOVER conversation about how to improve the urban environment of some of Edmonton’s core neighbourhoods? There’s still time to RSVP!

Last August, Council asked Administration to explore tools and incentives—regulatory, policy and funding levers—that could contribute to a better public realm in the core neighbourhoods (Boyle Street, McCauley, Central McDougall, Queen Mary Park, Downtown and Strathcona). Areas of these neighbourhoods contain vacant and underutilized buildings and spaces, which in some cases leads to the perception that the community as a whole is undesirable or unsafe.

What can we do about that? What tools exist, or might exist, that could shift this perception, and help to create an urban environment that looks and feels good for everyone?

The City would like your help in answering these questions. In January we’re inviting stakeholders who care deeply about the future of Edmonton’s core neighbourhoods to participate in a creative problem solving process to identify tools that could help spur private and public investment in these communities. Recognizing that we are not starting from a blank slate, we want to explore: What tools are currently in place? What’s working? What could be done differently? The input from the session will be gathered, aggregated and used to inform future ideas for action related to the public realm.

We’re contacting you because we believe your input into this conversation would be invaluable. The 90 minute meeting will be held at 1:30 PM on January 11, 2019 in Room SCFL 3-081 at Norquest College (10215 108 St. NW). Please RSVP using this link.
