Microorganisms are highly abundant and found everywhere on Earth. While they are known to cause illness, they are a predominantly positive force in many systems. In this talk, a special group of microorganisms known as Methylotrophs will be explored. The bacterial strains found in this group are not only safe to humans but also host unique properties that make them useful for industrial applications. Come learn about current research focused on leveraging these “Mighty Microbes” to repurpose methanol waste and mitigate methane emissions.

FEATURED SPEAKER: MARYSSA IACOBLLI
Maryssa Iacobelli is a PhD Student in Microbiology and Biotechnology at the University of Alberta where she works in the Climate Change Microbiology Lab. In her research, she is focused on understanding the physiology of microbes that are of industrial relevance. In addition to her work in the lab, Maryssa is also passionate about science communications and sharing her research with broad audiences.
