The Unhurried Practice:
Resilience, Strength & Ease
ABOUT THE CLASS
Yoga meets you where you are.
We listen to the intelligence of the body — its limits, its possibilities. There are no perfect poses, only a mindful awareness, a sharpening focus.
Breathwork connects mind and body. Poetry and yoga philosophy thread through our meditation and movement. Grounding builds balance. Holding builds stillness and strength. Reaching toward our edge builds resilience and fluid ease. Gentle joint mobility eases pain. And in letting go — like a leaf — we arrive at the vital pleasure of the here and now.
Come find yoga’s quiet joy.
ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
Janice Williamson came to yoga in 1979, seeking relief from stress, and never really left the mat. A four-month residency at a Sivananda ashram — asanas, pranayama, meditation — showed her how yoga could uplift one’s whole being.
She has since explored Hatha, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Yin, and Flow yoga, Pilates, and Zen meditation. After 32 years as Professor of Literary & Cultural Studies and Creative Writing at the University of Alberta, she completed 500+ hours of Yoga Alliance certified training in Advanced and Restorative Yoga, with further training in Yin Yoga, Chair Yoga, Mindful Meditation, and Yoga for joint mobility, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis.
Janice teaches group, semi-private, and private classes, as well as Yoga Writes Workshops.
