2020 neighbourhood renewal construction
The second of three years of planned construction for Strathcona’s neighbourhood renewal is slated to begin the week of April 27.
Work this year is to take place in central and east Strathcona. All roads, sidewalks, curbs, gutters and street lights will be replaced between 101 Street and Mill Creek Ravine, from 82 Avenue to 87 Avenue. A new multi-use path along the streetcar line will also be completed this year as well. If you live in this area, expect to receive a construction bulletin from the City of Edmonton in the mail with further details regarding special landscaping, access and Construction Project Manager Contact Information.
Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, plans may be subject to change, so please watch the community league’s website – strathconacommunity.ca – sign up for the e-newsletter or check the City of Edmonton’s project page – edmonton.ca/buildingstrathcona – for the latest on the plans for summer 2020. Residents in the construction area will also receive notices from the contractor as they progress through different stages of work.
Currently, the contractor plans to store their equipment and materials at multiple locations in the neighbourhood, between April 27 and November 15, 2020, due to work occurring on both sides of 99 Street. The majority of the construction storage will be on private land at 99 Street and 89 Avenue, with some materials stored at Tubby Bateman Park, and another site being the Strathcona Community Hall. Sites will be fenced and secured. If you have any questions, specific issues related to accessibility, or concerns about neighbourhood renewal construction please contact the construction project manager, the Building Great Neighbourhoods department or phone 311.
