August 2025 HGRC Update | More about Pickleball
Pickleball is coming to the Community League!
The court surfacing has started and we are hoping it will be completed by August 19 (weather-dependent).
To kick off our beautiful new courts, we are planning the following activities for the last two weeks of August:
- Intro to Pickleball – Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings – for those who have never played or are very new to the game. We will have volunteers instruct on the basic rules and give you a chance to practice basic shots.
- Tuesdays, 10:30am to noon; Thursdays 7pm to 8:30pm
- Starts Aug 19th if the courts are ready, and of course subject to weather
- Nets, balls and some paddles will be provided. If you have a paddle or can borrow one that will be helpful. Feel free to attend more than one session.
- Open play – Sunday mornings – for all levels – come out and play with whoever else shows up.
- Sundays 10:00am to noon
- Starts Aug 24, subject to weather
- A coordinator will be there to help set up and take down the nets, and organize the rotation.
- Nets, balls and some paddles will be provided. If you have a paddle or can borrow one that will be helpful.
- On Sunday, Aug 24th the league will host PICKLEBALL & PASTRIES to kick off our pickleball program. In addition to the Open Play, everyone is welcome to come out and watch, give it a try if you want, have a coffee and donut and say hello to some neighbours.
Depending on demand, we may continue some of these sessions (or add additional ones) in September. Contact hall@strathconacommunity.ca if you have any questions, requests or comments.
Members who want to play any other time – go ahead if you have your own net. If you want to use the League’s net (and balls and paddles), you can do so when someone is at the hall to give you access: Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri from 1pm – 4pm, and Thurs from 10am – 1pm. To borrow equipment, email the hall manager at rentals@strathconacommunity.ca ahead of time, or ring the doorbell at the south door.
Tennis players – don’t despair, we have a new tennis court – but the nets aren’t installed yet. We’ll let you know when tennis is available.
